New International M.Sc. Program “Mathematical Physics” Starting This Fall with Winter semester 2019/20As of this summer, interested students may apply for the new international and interdisciplinary master’s program, “Mathematical Physics,” at the University Leipzig, and follow the tracks of famous former professors like Werner Heisenberg and Felix Klein.

The master’s program is starting in October with the beginning of the winter semester and comprises two years. The connection between mathematics and physics in research and academic training is a special characteristic of Leipzig University. The new master’s program is designed jointly by the Institute of Mathematics and the Institute of Theoretical Physics in order to intensify and deepen this collaborative engagement.
The specific, research-oriented master’s program also reflects the strong cooperation between Leipzig University and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (MPI MiS), and forms a core area of the University´s research profile, “Mathematical and Computational Sciences,” with the particular focus on the training of prospective Ph.D. students. Application with the International Max Planck Research School at MPI MiS is one of the many options of successful graduates from this master’s program.
Addressing the global international spectrum of potential students, all lectures will be taught in English. The core content of the study program will be current research-oriented topics in mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science and related disciplines, with special emphasis on the theoretical and mathematical methods, and the thematic connection to physics and related sciences.
This program enables students to acquire the competence and knowledge of modelling scientifically measurable phenomena and scientific problems find mathematically exact descriptions and solve these mathematical problems of origin in the natural sciences. Graduates from this program will be able to master the objective and quantitative analysis of many physical, technical and scientific problems, as well as processes from medicine, and of societal, demographic or economical origin. Therefore, graduates of this program will command competencies that are in high demand with research institutions and similar industries.
